Profile
Inbar Spector's dramatic creative vision makes every outfit an event.
Her signature look combines complex constructions, crinolines, and
corsets with rich fabrics and intellectual sophistication.
AW08 marks Inbar Spector’s debut catwalk
collection. Spector’s collection finds gothic couture, meeting with the
unsettled essence of transition. Spector took the issue of immigration as
her focus for the collection: the notion of relocation and carrying your
previous life on yourself. Her muse leads a nomadic like existence and
the raw edges that run throughout the collection add to the deconstructed
feel. Corsetry has been combined with rucksacks; the rucksack becoming a
second skin, a brace. Do I carry the rucksack or does it carry me?
questions Spector.
The London
based designer is presenting 20 key pieces for women including suiting,
dresses and skirts. Panels of corseting have been created using silks,
chiffon, PVC and heavy-duty combat materials. Spector plays with setting
soft, delicate materials and against hard fabrics. Details running
throughout the collection include zips, buckles and corsetry lacing. The
femininity of the corsetry is balanced with a hard-edged gothic inspired
element and intricate tailoring.
Since graduating in 2004 from Israel’s Shenkar College
with four excellence of achievements awards, Spector has established
herself as a fresh new talent and a label to watch. Spector has won
acclaim internationally, in France
presenting her collection using models walking on ice for the Les
Chiffons de Diamant Award and in Japan becoming a finalist in
the New Designer Fashion Grand Prix.
Inbar Spector works with a small creative team in London and future
plans for the label include branching into men’s wear and accessories.
